Much Is At Stake

May we be mindful of the steps we must take
In full knowledge that what is at stake
Is just not who will become the president of our nation
But if evil will make our land its home and habitation

If our land will see the shedding of more blood
Be visited by the evil of pestilence and sword
If our streets will be filled with the wailing and cry
Of those who wish they would rather have died

Than witness the loss of those they hold dear
From an evil they watched as it drew near
That they never believed would be their lot
Oh! If only they had reasoned and thought

Thought through the choice of who would lead
Cast their votes not for men rotten with greed
Men whose every living, breathing hour
Is dedicated to the lustful pursuit of power

Men who would as the new born babe sleep
Rather than in deep mourning and pain weep
Then rise to act as a shepherd of the sheep
The people entrusted to their custody and keep

Oh! If they had hearkened to reasons voice
And been bold in making their choice
Not swayed by the lamentations of those who believe
All are at the mercy of men who lie and deceive

Those who say without counting the cost
That “your vote is no better than lost”
When you choose to vote for a man
You are persuaded has not just a plan

But the will to see the plan through
All the while being accountable to you
Not because you ask or demand
For accountability is part of his brand

May you be mindful of what lies ahead
Each day as you lay down your head
Till the morning that you will decide
If you will stand on posterity’s side
